ERA UPDATED: 2021 HHS Salary Cap Increase

Update, 2/23/2021

ERA has been updated with the new HHS salary cap of $199,300. New HHS Proposals created in ERA on or after February 23, 2020 should default to the new salary cap. Any HHS proposals created prior to the ERA update may need to be manually updated by the RA on budget smartform 3.0 Personnel Cost – Grid (as outlined in the original post below).

Original Post, 2/2/2021:

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management recently released new salary levels for the Executive Pay Scale. Effective January 3, 2021, the salary limitation for Executive Level II is $199,300, and this is the salary cap that now applies to personnel on projects funded by U.S. Health & Human Services (HHS) agencies, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The new salary cap will be implemented in the Enterprise Research Administration (ERA) system for automatic use on Proposals. An update to this post will be provided once ERA implementation is complete. In the meantime, RAs can manually apply the new cap on budget smartform 3.0 Personnel Cost – Grid.

The Salaries, Wages, and ERE page on the Research Admin website has been updated with the current NIH notice link: NOT-OD-21-057.
