Update, 1/15/2025 – NIH FORMS-I has been implemented in ERA. Users may now submit NIH proposals using System-to-System (S2S) functionality in ERA. Please see additional information and resources below in the update dated 1/10/2025.

Update, 1/10/2025 – The ERA Release scheduled for Monday night (1/13/2025) is slated to include implementation of NIH FORMS-I. This is intended to allow system-to-system (S2S) submission of NIH applications for the January 25th deadline and beyond.
NIH will require the use of FORMS-I for applications beginning January 25, 2025.
For a transition period, both FORMS-H and FORMS-I will be active simultaneously. Applicants must choose the appropriate application package for their due date.
NIH will withdraw and remove applications from funding considerations if applicants submit using an incorrect forms package.

NIH Preparing for 2025 Application and Review Changes – Tips and Resources
Reminders, 12/10/2024 –
- For the time being, NIH proposals due between January 25 – February 28, 2025 should be prepared for submission via ASSIST or Grants.gov Workspace [not System-to-System (S2S) through ERA].
- In NIH application packages due on or after 1/25/2025, ensure FORMS-I is selected.
Original Post, 10/18/2024 – NIH will soon release Forms-I grant application forms and instructions and will begin requiring FORMS-I for all applications due on or after January 25, 2025. An updated version of the SF424 for system-to-system (S2S) use in ERA will take time to develop after NIH’s release.
Based on the timeline and the potential for delays, NIH proposals due between January 25 – February 28, 2025 should be prepared for submission via ASSIST or Grants.gov Workspace (not S2S). Prior to deployment of FORMS-I in ERA, users will see an error message for NIH FOAs indicating that S2S submission is not supported.
Once the FORMS-I SF424 is deployed in ERA, ASU will be able to return to S2S submission for NIH proposals. Updates will be posted here on Research Operations News, including notice when FORMS-I is available in ERA.
