A new, required question will be implemented in ERA proposals on Monday evening, 8/5/2024. This question will allow ASU to better collect data regarding proposals and awards that have been made possible due to the University’s Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) eligibility (and MI eligibility if/when applicable in the future).
Funding Proposal (FP) SmartForm 2.3 Program Classification, Question 9.0, will read as follows:
* Is this opportunity restricted to certain types of institutions, as defined by the sponsor?
| – HSI: Hispanic Serving Institution – MSI: Minority Serving Institution (definition may vary from sponsor to sponsor) – MI: Minority Institution (typically requires 50% or more minority enrollment) – NA: None Apply |
Helptext will be provided to users by clicking on the maroon question mark icon next to ERA FP 2.3, Question 9.0. Below is an excerpt from the helptext:
Check the applicable box if the funding opportunity for this proposal is restricted to HSI, MSI, and/or MI institutions, based on the eligibility requirements stated in the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) or sponsor guidelines.

ERA will require a response to this question for all full proposals moving forward. This will impact pre-existing FPs as well as newly created FPs.
Completion of the question will be necessary before running one of the following activities:
- Submit For Department Reviews
- Forward for PNT Review
- ASU Post Submission Request Completed
- Sponsor Request Complete
If this ERA validation error occurs while the FP is in the “Department Review” state, and the FP is locked preventing the RA from completing the new question, please Notify PNT for assistance.
